The maker says each of the four cups is rated for 12 pounds and the perch holds up to a 25-pound cat. The mesh fabric wipes clean with soap and water. How to choose a cat window perch

Check your cat’s weight against the rating

Every maker lists a weight limit. K&H lists 50 pounds for its perches, Tuft + Paw lists 30, and Kitty Cot lists 25. Pick a perch rated well above your cat’s weight.

Measure your glass first

Each perch needs a certain amount of open, flat glass. K&H’s single hammock needs at least 29.5” by 14” by 9.5”, and it says to avoid textured, louvered or divided-pane windows. Kitty Cot lists small, medium and large widths, so it can suit narrower windows. Measure before you buy.

Think about blinds and extra features

Some perches fold or unclip so you can still close shades. A removable, washable cover makes cleanup easier. Extras like a cat grass planter or an enclosed level are nice, but they need more window space.

Know how it attaches

All five picks here attach to glass with suction cups. K&H and Kitty Cot say no tools are needed.

Safety tips

  • Check the suction cups often. K&H says to clean the cups and the glass once a month to keep a strong hold. Look at the cups each time you clean, and stop using a perch if a cup won’t stick.
  • Keep windows screened. The ASPCA says cats like to sit up high but can have trouble gripping ledges. It says falls often happen when a cat fixates on a bird and loses balance, and that falls can cause serious injuries. It recommends snug, sturdy screens on every window.
  • Don’t count on window guards. The ASPCA warns that childproof guards may not stop a cat from slipping through.
  • Call your vet after a fall. The ASPCA says cats that get prompt veterinary care after a fall have a much better chance of surviving. If your cat falls, find them quickly and take them to a vet.
  • Follow the weight limit. Don’t let more cats on a perch than the maker’s rating allows.

Common questions

Do cat window perches stay on the glass?

Most use suction cups. Both K&H and Kitty Cot say their perches need smooth glass, and K&H says to clean the cups and glass once a month for the best hold.

Can I close my blinds with a window perch installed?

On some models, yes. K&H says its EZ Mount hammock folds down so you can lower blinds or shades. Kitty Cot says its shades and blinds model can be unclipped so the perch hangs down.

Are window perches safe?

They can be if you choose one rated for your cat and check it often. The ASPCA warns that cats can fall from window perches, for example when they fixate on a bird, so it advises sturdy screens on windows.

Will a window perch fit any window?

No. Every perch needs a minimum amount of open glass. K&H, for example, lists a minimum of 29.5" x 14" for its single hammock and says not to use it on textured, louvered or divided-pane windows.
