Why are some parts of the apple a problem for cats?
The ASPCA lists the stems, leaves and seeds of apples as toxic to cats. They hold compounds that release cyanide, especially when the plant is wilting. The flesh of the fruit is not on that list.
Pet Poison Helpline adds some calm context. Cyanide sits inside hard seeds, and cats and dogs rarely crack them open. For cats, the more likely result of swallowing seeds is mild stomach upset. Even so, it is easy to cut seeds out, so do it every time.
